Shopping has changed dramatically in New Zealand in the last few decades. Globalisation has seen a flood of cheap imports and the proliferation of national retail chains. The squeeze has been put on small independent retailers.
Shopkeeping examines the continued and often tenuous existence of Dunedin’s independent retailers. They represent some of the mortar that holds our community together and a bastion against the homogenisation of our culture.
